Greetings fellow good meat lovers. I write this month’s farm letter sitting on an Amtrak train, with two crock pots, one leek, red braising wine, and other sundries stowed away in my luggage. I’m silently praying an onion doesn’t find its way out of my purse and roll down the train aisle. Odd? Yes, and completely par for my course. Appropriate? Absolutely. For you see friends, I am heading to the family farm to film a short farm-to-table cooking segment for the November installment of FEAST Magazine TV. Yes, I’ll write that again – Feast TV. Yee-haw! (you can watch the Feast TV episode here)
Along the lines of exciting news, I want to share with you some of the other Farmer Girl Meats business going-ons. It has been a course-altering couple of months, and here’s the official list of Why This Has Been The Awesomest Two Months Ever:
Awesome Thing #1:
Farmer Girl Meats was awarded a grant from the USDA in September. HALLELUJAH AND FIST BUMP! With these funds we are hiring full-time employees, creating a new whipper-snapper of an online store, working with more farmers, and most importantly, getting more good meat onto more plates. Thank you Missouri USDA and Senator McCaskill for your support of farm-to-table agriculture in the Midwest!
Awesome Thing #2:
Speaking of employees…I am stoked to announce the employment of a new team member, Operations and Supply Manager Ron Stringer. What can I say about Ron? He is crazy nice, likes good meat, has a houseful of kids, and is exactly perfect for Farmer Girl Meats. Look for Ron on the delivery trail and behind the scenes. And, Farmer Girl Meats wishes a fond farewell to our favorite summer intern, Brooke. She is off to pursue her next phase in life – hopefully graduate school in Colorado. Good luck Brooke!
Awesome Thing #3:
We’ve been talkin’ farms and food with the kind and talented folks at FEAST Magazine! Farmer Girl Meats will befeatured in the November issue of Feast Magazine, slated to hit stands on October 31st. Go get a copy and admire grain-bin glamour shots of your faithful good-meat producers Al and Roxanne (aka Dad and Mom).

Awesome Thing #4:
We’re cooking up a roast storm on Feast TV… like, literally. I’m not making this stuff up folks! Rich and flavorful grass-fed beef roast, perfect for autumnal Sunday Supper, is on the menu with Feast publisher Cat Neville. It just doesn’t get any better than this friends.
And that, in a not-so-brief-nutshell, is why it has been the awesomest two months ever for the Farmer Girl Meats gang. Without further ado I bid you farewell for the month
Happy & Healthy Eating,
Leslie
