Grass Fed Ground Beef is Packed With Omega-3s

March 13, 2018

Grass-fed ground beef can improve your heart health, your brain health, and even your child’s brain development.

By now you know that grass-fed beef has 2/3 less fat than conventional grain-fed beef. (Which means that grass-fed beef has roughly the same amount of fat as a skinless chicken breast.1) But one of the most important differences between grass-fed and grain-fed beef can’t be seen by the naked eye: Grass-fed beef is chock-full of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for heart and brain health. Even better, grass-fed beef has a Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio which may actually help prevent some diseases2.Which is a technical way of saying that Farmer Girl grass-fed beef is as good for your head and heart as it is for your taste buds. And here’s the science to prove it:

What are Omega-3s?

Omega-3s are the heart-friendly ?good? fats. Good? They’re practically magical! Those of us with lots of Omega-3s in our blood are 50% less likely to suffer a heart attack. In animal studies, scientists found that Omega-3s slowed the growth of some cancers. But perhaps Omega-3s are best known for their brain-building power. People with more Omega-3s are less likely to suffer from depression, schizophrenia, ADD, or Alzheimer’s Disease. 3And Omega-3s are necessary for your future superhero kiddos to develop strong, healthy brains, an essential superpower for all superheroes. Brain development starts in the womb, which is why doctors recommend that pregnant women eat plenty of Omega-3s in their diet.

So why do you have to absorb these fabulous fatty acids through your diet? Because your body can’t make them on its own. Not even superheroes can produce them! Omega-3s are only found in green grass, leaves and algae. Fortunately, Farmer Girl grass-fed cattle produce a meat that’s up to 60% higher in Omega-3s.4, because we raise them entirely on native prairie grasses, making them one of the best ways you can get Omega-3s into your diet.

In fact, just 4 ounces of Farmer Girl ground beef has almost twice as many Omega-3s as supermarket, grain-fed beef. And it has a whopping six times as many Omega-3s as a glass of milk. Instead of telling our kids to “drink your milk,” tell them to “eat your Farmer Girl beef!” (although let’s not take it too far and ask them to put ground beef on their cereal in the morning!) Now, here’s where it gets interesting. It’s not enough to have lots of good, healthy Omega-3s in your diet.

The ratio of your Omega-6 fatty acids to your Omega-3s is also important. Back in the caveman days, our diets had roughly equal Omega-6s and 3s. But the typical Western diet today has a ratio more like 15:1. And a high ratio like that actually promotes cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune disease.5Super scary! Farmer Girl ground beef boosts a ratio of 3:1, closer to our caveman ancestors. According to New York Times Best-Selling Author Dr. Joseph Mercola: “After isolating these fats, scientific experiments determined that if the ratio of Omega-6 fats to Omega-3 fats exceeds 4:1, people have more health problems. This is especially meaningful since grain-fed beef can have ratios that exceed 20:1 whereby grass-fed beef is down around 3:1.”6

That’s so important we’re going to repeat it – grass-fed beef has a safe, good-for-you Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio. Supermarket grain-fed meat does not. So enjoy your Farmer Girl grass-fed ground beef. It’s super yummy, lower in fat and higher in heart-healthy, brain-building Omega 3s. What a delicious way to stay healthy and train for Superhero domination!
